When Arouna decided to leave Senegal to go to Italy to find his redemption he was only seventeen. His journey through the desert, the imprisonment in Libya, the boat that took him to Lampedusa and the unfair accuse of helping human traffickers during the crossing, the Piazza Lanza prison in Catania and the endless walks under the Sicilian sun are just some of the steps of his journey. “Never Stop” is the photographic book born after meeting with me, in which I give shape to Arouna’s experience and ambitions. The aim of the project and of the associated video documentary, is to launch a crowdfunding campaign that will allow Arouna to rent a room in catania for a year, as he’s still living in the street.

Quando Arouna decide di lasciare il Senegal ha diciassette anni e la voglia di rendere l’Italia il luogo del suo riscatto. Il viaggio attraverso il deserto, la prigionia in Libia, il barcone che lo conduce a Lampedusa e l’accusa – ingiusta – di aver aiutato i trafficanti di uomini durante la traversata, il carcere di Piazza Lanza a Catania, le notti in strada e le infinite camminate sotto il sole della Sicilia Orientale sono solo alcune delle tante tappe del suo viaggio. Dal nostro incontro nasce il progetto “Never Stop”, un libro fotografico in cui divento un punto di riferimento nella vita del ragazzo e dò forma al viaggio e alle ambizioni di Arouna. Uno degli obiettivi del progetto fotografico e del documentario ad esso collegato, è stato il lancio di una campagna di crowdfunding che permetterà ad Arouna di avere finalmente una stanza e non vivere più per strada.
